Get Involved

As Suburban Glasgow is currently expanding very rapidly, the scope for work to be done is getting ever bigger!  It's getting to the point now that anything I say I will do risks becoming instant vapourware as I already have too much on my plate!

As I would like to see the route expand and grow, I am going to make some parts of it available for other people to work on, and also to hopefully encourage people to make other routes in adjacent areas that can perhaps be merged to Suburban Glasgow.  I guess this can be split in to three types:

  • Someone makes an independent and standalone route next to Suburban Glasgow.  This has the advantage of meaning there are no constraints on this route according to what is set up in Suburban Glasgow (set in 2013, needs the Workshop etc etc).  This has the disadvantage, however, of meaning that once the route is merged in to Suburban Glasgow then it effectively splinters off at that point.  It is not possible to "unmerge and merge again", so a route that is merged in to Suburban Glasgow becomes a part of it thereafter!  Merging any route in to Suburban Glasgow will still need to meet the constraints of Workshop uploads etc and I'd generally not want to add any further prerequisites.

  • Someone simply owns a part of the scenery for Suburban Glasgow and develops it independently from me.  This could be something like the entire Alloa or Paisley Canal line.  Whoever is getting involved starts working on the scenery for these lines, but the trackwork will need to be controlled centrally as it's all in the one file.  People then progress at their own pace and release when ready etc (or as part of a major release).

  • Someone works on a stretch of route in coordination with me, and we both progress towards a major release at the same time.  This is probably best for complete beginners, possibly progressing to the "own a section of route" thing above as time goes on.

I would be prepared to accept offers from people wanting to get involved, based on all experience levels - from complete beginners who have never laid a piece of track, to experienced route builders.  In the case of beginners, I would give any guidance needed.

The table below gives the current work plan along with the people involved:

If you are interested in getting involved in any of these, please let me know!  Many thanks...

Please do not just start working on something and send it to me without getting in touch beforehand!  I generally cannot accept updates to the route as they need to be done in coordination with tile and track updates etc.  The only exception to this is people who develop their own routes and want them merged in to Suburban Glasgow, but even then there are limitations, as mentioned above.
